Strasbourg: Capital de Noël

Strasbourg is by far the most beautiful city I’ve ever been to on a Christmas season. It lived up to its name, Capital de Noël or the Christmas Capital. The city is known for its annual Christmas market which started all the way back from the 16th century, making it one of the oldest Christmas markets in Europe.

Probably it’s just me, but the city gives the Christmas vibe straight out of the movies. Walking on a cold night at the centuries-old cobbled stone street; Christmas music playing in the background; sipping a cup of vin chaud. You know what I mean.

It was just sad when a few weeks before our visit, there was a mass shooting happened in the Christmas market which killed five and injuring several. Despite what had happened, the people of Strasbourg displayed their resilience and resumed the festive season welcoming hundreds of thousands of tourists from around the world.

Europe has a lot of Christmas capitals in different countries and we’re definitely looking forward to visiting if not all, but most of them. 🙂
