Poitiers: The City of Students?

It was my impression while I was there. Go to Hotel de Ville late in the afternoon, you’ll see students from elementary to high school. Go out at night and you’ll find yourself in the middle of the crowd, the majority of them are college and Erasmus students.

I stayed in Poitiers for two weeks to meet and help Iris preparing her place for another semester. She moved from Bordeaux to Poitiers to continue her master studies.

Compared to Bordeaux, Poitiers is relatively small and a lot less visited by tourists. However, there are a few interesting things to see in the city. First of all, the city is located on top of a hill. So if you like challenges while sightseeing, I highly recommend this city. Another fascinating sight in the city is the intricately carved façade of the churches. You literally need to take a closer look to appreciate how much time and hard work were spent to finish these masterpieces. Although we haven’t been to see it more closely, some houses on the other side of the railway were impressively carved into the cliff. I wonder what it feels like inside those houses. And lastly, probably the most famous destination in Poitiers is the Futuroscope. A theme park which houses multiple high-technology inspired attractions. We went there for a day and will make a separate post for it. 😉

We went to visit La Rochelle on a weekend but aside from that, we really didn’t do much. Most of the days were spent arranging and preparing the apartment since there was barely nothing in it. If you ever happened to be in France and wants a little more about the country, visit Poitiers. I find it cute. 😉
