Dune Du Pilat, France

Dune du Pilat, also called as Grande Dune du Pilat, is the tallest sand dune in Europe, with the height of 106.60m above sea level (as of 2018). It is located in La Teste-de-Buch in the Arcachon Bay area, France, just 60 km from Bordeaux.

We took a few-hour side trip during our trip to Arcachon since it’s just less than an hour away from the town. The dune has a massive area that it’s better to take a drone to appreciate its grandness (although I don’t think it is legal to fly a drone here without a permit). Based on experience, you need to have enough stamina to walk up the dune, if you are not planning to take the stairs. Also, it is probably better to visit in the morning or late in the afternoon unless you enjoy the scorching hot sun and sand.

Most of the people go there to enjoy the stunning view overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. But the most famous activity here is paragliding. So if you’re into it, you’re in for a treat.

Wow, I didn’t know there’s a sand dune in France, interesting. Is the sand hot to the touch as well? Because if yes then how the hell did that kid withstand the heat when he buried himself in there?!

The view looks amazing, would love to go there when I return to France.

    • The sand was hot AF because it was in the middle of summer 😀 Balik ka ulit dito kung safe na lumipad. 😀
