Amsterdam: The City of Bikes and Canals

Following our trip to Haarlem was Amsterdam. I’ve heard and read that this city is famous for bikes, canals and coffee shops. Spoiler alert, we’ve only seen the first two. 😛

True to its name, bikes rule the street. Everywhere you look, there are bikes. A lot of bikes. An amazing number of bikes zig-zagging around the city that I wish to have in the Philippines instead of taxis, tricycles, and jeeps. Another cool stuff to see and maybe experience is the boats passing under the bridges and through canals. I said “maybe” because you know, we’re budgetarian. 😛

It was raining the whole time when we explored the city so we were only limited to a few places. We’ve been to Van Gogh museum and was surprised to know his tragic life before his paintings were recognized by the world. However, he was for sure one of the first trendsetters of a selfie. If you’re a fan of history, specifically WWII, here you can find the Annex where a girl named Anne Frank hid and wrote her diary before they were caught by the Nazis. Unfortunately, we didn’t check the house because it’s just impossible to be on the queue while it’s pouring outside.

We didn’t spend too much time in the city, well, because of the rain and, we had a train to catch to Belgium for our last destination on the day after, Prague. For sure, Amsterdam is one of the European cities I want to go back soon. *winks*
