The Elusive Island of Siargao
It has been a long time since I’ve been wanting to go to Siargao. In fact, three years ago I had two tickets for Siargao, a plane ticket I got from airfare promo and a boat ticket I bought when I knew that my friends were also going on a separate date. Unfortunately, all those tickets went to nowhere but in a hospital. On the day of my flight, I was admitted to a hospital due to sever sore throat. And there goes my Siargao. Gone. 😀
Three years later and finally, I was able to check it off of my list. We spent four days doing nothing but surfing and living the island life. 😉 Just kidding! I was actually tip-tapping my keyboard hoping to get some job done remotely and Iris was working on her thesis but actually, nothing much were done because of the turtle speed internet. A friendly island reminder that you don’t have to bring your work when in Siargao.
People say that Siargao has now become crowded compared to few years back. And in fact, the crowd is noticeably visible, most of them are international tourists. It is highly possible that the arrival of increasingly number of tourists will lead to an undesirable damage of the island. Fortunately, the people in the island are already aware of this and are making great effort to handle the situation. One exceptional example is the ban on single use plastics. Everybody is encourage to bring their own bags whenever they go to the market and recycle whatever can be recycled.
So for you out there who are planning to visit Siargao, you know what to do. Actually, let’s be responsible wherever we go, not just in Siargao because the truth is, all these islands are on the same planet. 😉 Cheers!
