Epic (Fail) Surfing in Siargao

My first attempt on surfing was in Dulag Surf Camp which obviously didn’t turn out well as I had imagined. Here in Siargao is my second try and confident enough that it will be much better than before. And of course, it was not. 😛

We surfed three days in a row which for me was not enough. I could spend at least a month there doing nothing but surfing (I wish).

Compared to Dulag, Siargao is more dangerous not just because of the waves and sharp rocks but also of the crowd. There were at least 30 people trying to catch the same wave. Of course, accidents are prone to happen. And I do had my fair share of injury. I got hit by a kid with his short board (see short clip below). Good thing it was the side of the board that hit my knee. If it was the pointed tip, it would have been another story.

But injuries and wounds aside, our experience was so much fun. Surfing is challenging and exhausting but has a different level of fun. However, it is quite expensive specially if you don’t have your own board and if you need a guide. And speaking of guide, we highly recommend Kuya Roel, who was our guide for three days, a nice and experienced surfer. If you’re going to Siargao soon, don’t hesitate to contact him through his mobile number (+63907 140 4532).
