Poznań: Where Tourists Are Counted By Two Headbanging Goats
One of the big cities in Poland I haven’t visited yet is Poznań. Iris and I decided to go over the weekend since it is just few hours away by train from Warsaw. Before we arrived, I already made contact with one of the Filipinos who is living in Poznań. Knowing someone when going around places is always better so that you’ll have a reference on where to go and what to do.
I’ve only heard about a brewery turned into a shopping center in the city and nothing else. Iris already took care on research so I didn’t bother to do it. Old towns are not surprising to us anymore since probably every city in Europe has it. However, the interesting part of Poznań’s Old Town are the two headbanging goats on top of the Town Hall everyday at 12:00 noon. People said, you can determine how many tourists are in the city at this time because everybody gathers around the Town Hall waiting for these mighty metal goats going head to head that lasts for a few minutes. If you are interested about the legend, you can see it here.
We visited the city on Easter Sunday and it is normal to see some huge eggs scattered around the city, but what surprised me were the palms carried by people during the Palm Sunday mass. I am used to it because it is also done in the Philippines but I didn’t expect that they are using the whole branch of the palm whereas in the Philippines, we only used the twig. o.O Amazing!
However, I say that the highlight of this trip was eating dried fish. Lots of dried fish. 😀 We were invited by Jojo and Lucas for dinner at their house together with other hospitable Filipinos in the city. Our very kind hosts served various foods but I was only focused on the dried fish. I can’t remember anymore when was the last time I ate it. The night was full of fun and we enjoyed meeting other Filipinos far away from home. Iris and I would like to thank Jojo and Lucas for hosting and preparing the best comfort foods, to Ma’am Agnes for dropping us to our apartment and to all the fun and hospitable Filipinos we’ve met over the weekend. Until we meet again! 😉
