Zakopane: How Not To Ski

On the second day of our Zakopane weekend trip, we tried skiing. Tymon is nothing new to it and in fact, the slope is his playground. Tomasz had tried it once long time ago but basically, he is just like us, level zero.

At first, I was nervous not just for me but for Iris as well. I am totally helpless if ever there’s something that would happen to her. Good thing Tymon was there to help and taught us from theory to skiing on our own. It was like a class of toddlers learning how to get up, which by the way is really hard at first. You can tell someone is really good at what he do if he knows how to teach. Tymon is that someone. Learning how to ski without an instructor is effin hard. I witnessed some. 😉 So, if you want to learn how to ski, I know someone. Let’s talk about how much later. 😉

The hardest part of skiing for me, is how to get off of the lift. The first time I tried it, my heart was palpitating. Will I make it or will it be just one of the many epic fails on that day? Adding to the pressure were those little kids bypassing us who probably learned how to ski before they can even talk. 😛

But when I saw other adults who were also struggling to get up, it boosted my confidence. If I fall, I don’t mind. I am not alone. When it was my turn to take the lift, I instantly put on my poker face and grabbed the pole that would take me to my first ever ski experience. Aaaaaannnndd.. so I did! I fell. Falling down was not the most humiliating epic fail that happened, it was when a four-year old kid stare at me while he effortlessly glide into the slope. *facepalm*

But who cares, as I said, I was not alone. Fortunately, after how many devastating and dignity-reducing fails, I was able to slide down the slope, ONCE (it’s something :3). After few hours of going back and forth, I decided to stop because I feel like my butt has already started to change its color.

Overall, it was a fun-filled experience and maybe if I could spend at least a week practicing ski, I might probably be able to do slalom or half-pipe. 😉 Just kidding! I think the best achievement would be learning how to turn. 😀
