Warsaw Old Town

If you’re into history, you’ll agree that Poland is definitely on the top list of historical places to visit. It is not just rich in history but it also shows the resilience of the people from the total destruction of the country during WWII. I don’t have a vast knowledge of Poland’s history but I do have an interest on what had happened during the WWII. And there’s no better way to learn than being at the location where it happened.

IMO, the best way to visit and learn about Warsaw Old Town is through organized free walking tour. Aside from being free, you can guarantee that the tour guides knew the history very well that it feels like a storytelling before going to bed.

Old Town is one of the busiest tourist destinations in Warsaw. Expect a number of tourists from all over the world gathered in this area, specially on good weather. But I’m not wondering why because of the interesting and picturesque facades of the buildings. The color contrast and wonderful architectural designs are so enticing that you better be prepared with extra batteries and memory cards for your camera.

Current buildings were just actually more or less 60 years old because they were replicas of the original Old Town. During WWII, most of Warsaw were literally flattened. And Old Town was no exception to that. After the Soviet Red Army freed Poland from the Nazi German forces, they started rebuilding the town. However, buildings were not exactly the same as the original and has some soviet architecture designs since Poland was under communism for a long time.

Visiting old towns, for me is a very special experience because it feels like time travelling. Reading it from books and internet is very different than being physically there.
