Surf’s Up: Dulag Surf Camp

A two and a half hour drive from Maasin City is Sabang Daguitan Surf Camp. A resort located at Brgy. Sabang Daguitan, Dulag in the province of Leyte.

It was day 3 of my 4-day vacation in Southern Leyte together with Iris and her family. We drove early in the morning from Maasin City to Dulag via Tacloban-Baybay Road. We arrived at 9:00 am, had our brunch and took rest for a while before grabbing that board, ride every 2-story-high wave and do a 360 like  pro. But no, the waves were normal, just like when a ferry-boat from Lapu-lapu passed by and definitely no 360 degree turns. 😛

It was Iris’ 3rd time to come and surf in Dulag and unfortunately, it was my first time, both Dulag and surfing.

At first, I thought it would be as easy as 1-2-3 but it turned out to be as difficult as counting 1-10, in Polish. …^_^… I was struggling even just to stand for a second. Good thing my instructor was patient enough to say encouraging words but darn it, I don’t need it. I just wanted to stand and ride on the board even for just at least 3 meters.

Meanwhile, Iris was riding like a pro. One more day at the sea and she don’t need a guide anymore. 😉 Well, it’s not surprising how good she is. Before she went here two times, she spent a whole week in Siargao. That’s how she likes surfing. No. That’s how she LOVES surfing.

Finally! After 1 hour of struggling, I managed to stand on the board up to 5 meters… then I fell. However, I didn’t have my camera that time. So yeah, you may consider it as a lie but I swear, I did it. 😛

We didn’t stay for long because we had a long drive ahead going back to Maasin. We left after lunch and had a sidetrip to Ormoc before finally going home. I definitely had fun and will try it again next time. 😉

Check out our short clip at the bottom of the page to see how fun it was. Kind of. 😛
