Sleepless Journey to Mont Saint-Michel

Remember I had a 7-hour delayed flight from Brussels to Bordeaux? Well, because of that, we almost missed our bus going to Mont Saint-Michel.

The plan was to arrive in Bordeaux at around 6:00 PM, take a nap for a couple of hours and catch the bus going to Rennes at 1:30 AM. However, I arrived in Bordeaux at 12:00 AM, tired and stressed, we rushed to Iris’ apartment to leave some things and then ran to the bus station.

The bus ride to Rennes was about six to seven hours and as far as I could remember, I only had a few minutes of sleep while on the bus. I am not a fan of sleeping while sitting. And the day before that, I had to wake up at 4:00 AM for my flight to Brussels. I was already awake for 28 hours when we arrived in Rennes but we need to catch another bus going to Mont Saint-Michel.

It was great that the weather was cold. It helped me keep my cool because if it was the other way around, for sure this trip would have ended in different way. πŸ˜€

The idea of going to Mont Saint-Michel was not mine. Honestly, I have never heard of it until Iris brought it up while we were planning of going somewhere. Apparently, it is one of her top places to visit. When I looked it up on the internet, it turned out that it is one of France’s most recognizable landmarks, visited by more than 3 million people each year. Silly me. πŸ˜€

The island is composed of an abbey and monastery at the top, a number of chapels and halls and then stores and housing at the bottom. This island has a long history and if you are interested on it, go checkout its wiki page.

One thing that surprised me on this island was the twenty peso bill I found stamped on the ceiling of a restaurant where we had our lunch. I never thought that a bill from the other side of the world would end up on that ceiling. Amazing!

We spent the whole day climbing up and down the island before going back to Rennes to get the long-awaited rest. Despite of what happened, everything went well and we both have fun. πŸ˜‰
