Hiking Through Kampinos National Park

We started our hike at 1:00PM from Palmiry through a 3 hour trail to Truskaw. Kampinos National Park is an hour away from the city center of Warsaw. We took the metro from the center to Młociny and from Metro Młociny, we hailed Uber to take us to the starting point, because why not? 😀 Just kidding. I was late, that’s why we missed the bus. 😛

The forest is so dense that without the trail, you could easily get lost. Of course, unless you have your smartphone. 😉 There were many trails you could choose from, from a short to 50km trail. It was a relax walk because of the easy path. I was hoping to see some wild animals but we only saw two squirrels, hundreds of mosquitoes and a bunch of mushrooms. Not bad. 😉

The calmness and silence of the forest was a good weekend relaxation after a hustling and bustling weekdays but at the same time, it felt creepy. After more than two hours of walking, we passed by Palmiry National Memorial Museum. The building was in a shape of a cube, but what’s interesting were the bullet-holes design on the outer wall. It was a memorial museum for the victims of German occupation. In front of the museum is a cemetery for the 2115 victims executed by the Nazis during the war. It was then that I realized, Kampinos National Park was a battlefield and a witness of horrible mass executions. It is one big graveyard of the helpless victims of war.

We continued our hike for another hour and went to Dziupla for a well deserved lunch before going back home.
